The aquarium equipment conversations are often dominated by which light is more important, or which protein skimmer is best suited for your size of aquarium system. But one of the most widely overlooked aspects of a reef tank is the water flow. Instead of asking yourself if you should go T5HO or LED, you might want to consider the amount and type of flow you have moving through your reef. Protein skimmers and lighting equipment have obviously been proven time and time again to produce results, pretty much with whatever brand and type of equipment you use. Water flow, on the other hand, can easily be underestimated, allowing detritus to build up in dead spots and not delivering vital nutrients to corals. So, get good equipment for lights and skimmers, but also be sure to place heavy considerations on the flow scheme.
